ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN COMPUTER GAMES: THE INTEGRATION PROSPECTS FOR ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE’S PHILOSOPHY AND GAMING RESEARCH

Abstract. In the era of artificial intelligence (AI) rapid development, affecting all spheres of human activity, understanding its manifestations is of paramount importance. Computer games, being one of the most dynamically developing and massive interactive media forms, act as a kind of experimental platform for advanced AI technologies.

The work aim is to interpret the philosophical foundations of AI in computer games by integrating key concepts of AI philosophy and gaming research. The research object is AI in computer games, and the subject is the conceptual intersections that arise when analyzing AI in computer games through the main ideas of AI philosophy prism and gaming research.

To achieve this goal, the key approaches and concepts of AI philosophy (A. Turing, D. Fodor and J. Searle to D. Dennett, H. Dreyfus and N. Bostrom) and gaming research (J. Murray and M.-L. Ryan, E. Aarset, G. Frasky, J. Bogost) were studied. Integration «bridges» between these areas have been identified and analyzed. Methods of analysis and synthesis, comparative, hermeneutic, systemic and interdisciplinary approaches were used in the work.

The study results revealed three key «bridges». Firstly, the simulation and imitation AI behavior in computer games problems. Secondly, the agency, interactivity and AI characters autonomy issues. Thirdly, the extended mind concept application to game systems issue.

The research novelty lies in the comprehensive interdisciplinary framework creation for analyzing the AI philosophical aspects in the computer games context. The following conclusion is drawn: computer games provide unprecedented opportunities for exploring the consciousness, intelligence, agency nature, human intelligence and AI boundaries.
