«Under the Banner of Marxism» is a scientific and philosophical peer-reviewed journal intended for the publication of research results in the field of philosophy, social and humanitarian sciences (sociology, political science, history of philosophy and others), as well as interdisciplinary approaches to the study of socially significant processes, events, facts in the context of classical and modern versions of Marxism as a theory and methodology of social science. The journal «Under the Banner of Marxism» is intended for scientists, postgraduates and students interested in the history and theory of the teachings of Karl Marx and his followers in the 19th-21st centuries and invites to cooperation all those who are ready to develop these studies on a wide range of academic subjects.

The journal publishes scientific articles, overviews, critiques, reports about scientific events and other types of scientific texts in accordance to the stated subjects. Researches related to application of theory and methodology of Marxism to modern processes of societal development are especially welcome.

The Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board and Editorial Board of the scientific journal «Under the Banner of Marxism» undertake to follow the guidelines and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and to take into account the experience of reputable international journals and publishers.

The editorial board of the journal «Under the Banner of Marxism» (hereinafter referred to as the journal) makes every effort to comply with the ethical standards accepted by the international scientific community.

Evaluation of the article

All articles are subject to a double-blind peer review process and must meet academic quality standards. If approved by the editor, papers will be reviewed by reviewers whose identities will remain anonymous to the authors.

The journal team may seek advice beyond standard peer review, for example, on submissions related to ethical issues. We may consult with peer reviewers before deciding on appropriate action, including evaluation by additional editors and rejection of further submissions.

Originality and plagiarism

Ethical standards for publications are needed to guarantee the high quality of scientific publications and the public’s trust in scientific research.

Should be avoided:

• Fabrication and falsification of data: Fabrication of data means that the researcher did not do any work and made up the data. Data falsification means that the researcher performed an experiment but then changed some of the data. Both of these actions undermine people’s trust in scientists.
• Plagiarism: Using other people’s ideas and work without giving them credit is unfair and unjust. Copying at least one sentence from another’s manuscript or even your own from a previously published manuscript without citation is considered plagiarism – convey the meaning in your own words. Articles with an originality of more than 85% in the Anti-Plagiarism system will be accepted for consideration. All citations used must have correct references.
• Submission to multiple journals: It is unethical to submit one manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Such actions take up the time of editors and reviewers and can damage the reputation of journals if the manuscript is published in more than one scientific journal.
• Duplicate publications: means publishing similar manuscripts based on the same experiment. This will cause readers to overlook your manuscripts.
• Misattribution: All authors listed must have made a significant scientific contribution to the study. Be sure to list everyone who made a significant scientific contribution, including students and lab technicians.

Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism by other authors will be rejected. Any published articles may need correction or feedback.

The Editorial Board organizes manuscript evaluation, ensures proper confidentiality when working with submissions to the journal, identifies conflicts of interest, and resolves ethical conflicts that arise.

Upon receipt of materials (manuscripts), the editorial board controls the authors’ compliance with the rules of manuscript submission, including the presence of abstract, keywords, and bibliographic list.

The Editorial Board evaluates the manuscript for compliance with the subject of the journal and appoints two reviewers with sufficient qualifications to assess the quality of submitted materials. When appointing reviewers, the Editorial Board proceeds from the necessity to ensure the absence of conflict of interest and integrity of reviewing.

The Editorial Board organizes the examination of the submitted manuscript according to the principle of double-blind review. The experts are given the opportunity to freely express motivated critical comments on the level and clarity of the presented material, its compliance with the journal profile, novelty and reliability of the results. The reviewers’ recommendations are the basis for the final decision on the publication of the article.

The decision to publish is made by the Editorial Board of the journal in accordance with the journal’s policy, taking into account the current legislation in the field of copyright. Manuscripts are evaluated solely on the basis of their scientific content, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnicity, citizenship and political views of the authors.

The editor, members of the editorial board and all editorial staff may not disclose information about submitted papers to anyone other than the respective authors, reviewers and the editor-in-chief.

The editor, members of the editorial board and editorial board have no right to use unpublished materials used in the submitted manuscript in their own research without the written consent of the author.

When an ethical complaint is made about a submitted manuscript or published article, the editorial board will take reasonable steps to respond. Every report of unethical behavior is reviewed, even if it is received years after the publication of the article. If the complaint is upheld, appropriate corrections, retractions, or apologies are published.

Authors submit an article that presents the results of their own original research. All authors whose names appear on the application are expected to have made significant contributions to the work and to be collectively responsible for the results.

If the manuscript is co-authored, it is expected that consent to submit the manuscript has been explicitly obtained from all co-authors at the initial submission stage. If correspondence regarding the manuscript is conducted by one of the co-authors on behalf of all others, that person is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors receive all information about their work.

The journal expects that the manuscript has been prepared for the specific academic audience of this journal and has not been sent to other journals for simultaneous consideration. However, we recognize that authors have the right to submit their manuscripts simultaneously elsewhere – however, if this has been done, we urge authors to inform the Editorial Office. If an author’s manuscript has been approved for publication by any of the journals to which it has been submitted, the author must immediately withdraw the manuscript from all other journals. If an author neglects this requirement, their manuscript may be rejected by the journal at any stage. Although our journal may accept a manuscript that has been simultaneously submitted to another journal for consideration, it will not publish or even approve for publication such a manuscript.

Authors may not submit for consideration manuscripts that have been previously published, in whole or in part; manuscripts presenting the same results of the same study that have already resulted in a similar publication. The journal expects that authors may consider their manuscripts as a potential part of their future books or monographs, but not vice versa.

If an author discovers a material error or inaccuracy in his or her published work, he or she must immediately notify the editor or manager of the journal and assist them in removing or correcting the error. If the editor or manager learns from a third party that the published work contains significant errors, the author is notified, and the author must promptly remove or correct the errors or provide the editorial board with evidence of the correctness of the original article.

Authors have the right to withdraw their manuscript at any time while it is under review.

The main task of the reviewer is to objectively and promptly assess the compliance of materials (manuscript) with the journal subject, scientific novelty and the level of results presented in the manuscript, the quality of preparation of materials and formulate recommendations on the publication of materials, their revision or rejection with due confidentiality, following the generally accepted standards of objectivity, ensuring non-disclosure of information and timely informing about conflicts of interest.

A peer reviewer makes a significant contribution to a scientific journal. His/her peer review helps the editor in making editorial decisions and through the cooperation between the editor and the author can help the author to improve his/her work.

Reviewers should identify relevant published works in the reviewed material that have not been properly cited or referenced by the authors. The reviewer is also obliged to draw the editor’s attention to substantial or partial similarities with any other work with which the reviewer is directly familiar.

Unpublished materials used in the submitted manuscript should not be used in the reviewer’s own research without the written consent of the author. Classified information or ideas obtained during the review should remain confidential and not be used for personal gain.

Dear authors!

We bring to your attention a number of conditions for publication in the journal «Under the Banner of Marxism» (hereinafter referred to as the Journal), which is a philosophical and scientific periodical intended for a wide range of readers, including students, postgraduates, researchers, experts, analysts, and anyone interested in the subject matter of issued publications.

The journal accepts original scientific articles, reviews, overviews that have not been published anywhere before.

The journal publishes archival materials subject to copyright and other intellectual property rights.

The subject matter of the publications is related to the theoretical and methodological possibilities of Marxism for research on social and humanitarian subjects of wide profile, as well as the history of Marxism, its conceptual varieties and modern forms of interpretation. Publications where Marxism and its modern forms act as a methodology for expert and analytical assessment of significant and relevant socio-economic and socio-cultural events are welcome.

The journal publishes the following metadata in the public domain: the surname, first name, patronymic of the author (co-authors), the title of the publication, the abstract and keywords in Russian and English. For publications that require a «gratitude» section or other sections related to financing, grant support, etc., it may be possible to publish this information in the public domain. The full text of the publication is available by subscription using the relevant services.

The procedure for submitting manuscripts to the editorial office is set out in the publication rules.

The authors of the publications may be researchers whose results correspond to the substantive topic of the journal. No more than one article by an author (co-author) is published in one issue of the journal. One author (co-author) of an article cannot have more than one affiliation. If justified in writing, a second affiliation may be sent to the editorial office’s email address as an exception, if the editorial board considers the arguments about the second affiliation to be significant. All authors (co-authors) personally sign and send copyright license agreements to the editorial office. If the authors do not have affiliations, they can indicate the status as an «independent researcher».

The languages of publications are Russian and English.

Publications should be formatted in accordance with the Rules established by the editorial board.

There is no publication fee for the authors (co-authors).

All publications submitted to the journal are reviewed by at least 2 reviewers, experts on the issues outlined in the text of the publication.

The journal adheres to the publication ethics, the principles of which are outlined in a specialized section.

The journal is distributed by subscription using the relevant services.

The manuscript is sent to the editorial office by e-mail mrxsm_editor@mail.ru to the editor of the magazine, Maria Sergeevna Koptseva, with the subject of the letter «Under the Banner of Marxism».

Sent to the editorial office in two separate files:

• The first file – title page, article text (including references)
• The second file – list of references for publication in the NEL (RSCI)

The electronic version of the article is prepared in Microsoft Word. The text of the article is placed on an A4 page in Times New Roman font, 12 points in size, with a line spacing of 1.5. Portrait orientation with margins of 2.5 cm on all sides and obligatory page numbering.

File names begin with the author’s surname followed by Cyrillic initials followed by the note «article»/ «references».

Title page requirements

The title page states:

1. UDC
2. Title of the article in Russian
3. Surnames, names, patronymics (in full) of each author, in Russian
4. ORCID ID (if available), e-mail
5. Full name of all organizations, which include authors in Russian, position, city and country
6. Abstract in Russian. The abstract is a brief, but at the same time the most informative content of a scientific publication. The abstract should be at least 1500 characters. It summarizes the background and objectives of the study, the main methods, including the type of study, sampling and main analytical methods, the main results with their numerical expression and levels of statistical significance, and the main conclusions. New and important aspects of the study are noted
7. Keywords in Russian – 3-6 keywords that reflect the issues explored in the research
8. Scientific specialty of the HAC: code and title. Select and detail the HAC specialty according to the list of specialties of our journal (see above)
9. Information from points 2-6 in English in the same sequence.

Requirements for the text of the article:

Recommended length of the text of the article – from 20 000 to 40 000 characters (with spaces)

Recommended article structure:

• Stating the problem, purpose of the article, review of scientific literature on the problem
• Methodology (materials and methods)
• Research results, discussion
• Conclusion (conclusions in accordance with the purpose of the article, author’s contribution)

An obligatory element of the text of the article is «References».

Lists of references (References) are presented in two formats:

1. APA-Style: in the original language of the sources for English-language publications and in transliteration in Latin characters with the translation of publication sources into English for non-English-language sources, the translations into English should be in square brackets. Initials are written after the last name and separated from the last name by a comma. On the website translit.ru you can use the program for transliterating Russian text into Latin  for free (BSI version)
2. Additionally, the same list of sources is compiled for further publication in the RSCI: Russian-language sources are written in Cyrillic, and English-language sources are written in Latin

In the works of researchers N. A. Nepomnyashchih (Nepomnjashhih, 2014), E. T. Chamzyryn (Chamzyryn, 2010), A. L. Kosheleva (Kosheleva, 2010), Iu. Khazankovich (Khazankovich, 2014) folk-poetical and mythological origins of Siberian fiction in specific works. It is rather difficult to draw a line between a fairy tale, in particular a magical fairy tale, and an epos (Voskobojnnikov, 1973: 13).

• It is sent to the editorial office, if necessary, together with the article in separate files with the .jpg extension
• Includes a description of a figure, table, graph, diagram, etc., as well as an indication of where in the text of the article this material should be placed
