Abstract<\/strong>. The article focuses on the problem of preserving and studying the archival heritage associated with the exploration of the Arctic. One of its components is a set of documents related to the biography of the geologist Feodosiy Nikolayevich Chernyshev (1856\u20131914). For the first time, the scientist\u2019s expedition diaries describing his trip to the Svalbard Archipelago in 1901 are introduced into scholarly circulation. The trip took place as part of the Russian-Swedish expedition for degree measurements in the archipelago in 1899\u20131901. The Russian contingent of the expedition was headed by F. N. Chernyshev for three years. The diaries are preserved in Fund No. 13, \u201cCommission of the Academy of Sciences for Degree Measurements on the Svalbard Islands,\u201d of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Among the documents relating to the history of the expedition are Chernyshev\u2019s diaries, which he kept during his scientific trips to the archipelago. The scientist\u2019s daily notes describe in detail the expedition\u2019s route in 1901 and the course of its scientific research, while also reflecting the everyday difficulties and complexities of the work faced by researchers studying the Arctic territory. The use of source studies and textual analysis made it possible to conduct a historical critique of the sources, examine their features, and analyze their information potential. The diaries are published in accordance with modern spelling and punctuation rules. Additional information about the geographical objects and persons mentioned in the diaries is provided in footnotes and comments that contextualize the sources. These documentary testimonies provide valuable material on the role of the Russian scientific community in the exploration of the Arctic at the beginning of the twentieth century and allow contemporary readers to comprehend this unique historical experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
