The development of caravan trade between Russia and China in the eighteenth century had a significant impact on the formation of the Russian porcelain and faience industry. An important role in this process was played by trade expeditions organized by wealthy merchants from the Russian North along routes connecting Northeast Asia with the Russian Far East and Eastern Siberia. The present article examines the territory of Vologda Oblast, a major center of Russo-Chinese trade during the period under consideration. Porcelain and faience objects purchased by local merchants formed the basis of the Oriental porcelain collection of the Totma Regional Museum, one of the oldest museums in Vologda Oblast. At present, the Totma Oriental collection remains poorly studied, and its objects have only been partially attributed. There is also a lack of scholarly attention to the Orientalist analysis of the images found on the collection\u2019s objects, including their hieroglyphic inscriptions. A thorough study of the collection could significantly expand scholarly understanding of private collecting in Russia and its historical and cultural ties with China and other countries of Northeast Asia. The purpose of the article is to refine the attribution of the collection\u2019s objects and determine their possible places and dates of origin using illustrative materials obtained by the author from the Totma Museum Association. To achieve this purpose, the author employs a comprehensive methodology combining elements of museological, art-historical, and historical-cultural analysis. The study also applies a method for reconstructing the history of the formation of the Totma Regional Museum\u2019s collections.
