The research results of 16 necropolises of the second half of the IX \u2013 XI centuries AD located in different parts of the region under consideration and containing burials according to the rite of cremation were used. The features of the existing source base that determine the possibilities of social reconstruction are established. Three main levels of the society of early medieval Kyrgyz of Altai are distinguished, which are reflected in rather fragmentary materials of excavations of archaeological complexes. The first level demonstrates the local elite on the periphery of the nomadic empire and mainly associated with military affairs, as well as members of their families. The basis of a small society of Kyrgyz in Altai was ordinary nomads. Excavation materials show the stratification within this group, which is reflected in the sets of accompanying equipment from the burial sites, in particular, the allocation of a group of wealthy cattle breeders is recorded. Finally, the third layer, represented by single objects, including burials with few inventory, can be associated with impoverished nomads.
