Contribution of American and British Expeditionary Forces to the Visual Image of the Civil War in Russia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The destruction of the Russian Empire and the outbreak of the Civil War in Russia provoked intervention from other states. Active military intervention in the Far East, Siberia and the northern part of Russia was carried out by such members of the Entente Supreme Council as the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain, connected with each other not only by allied commitments, but also by the unity of language and the continuity of cultures. Nowadays studying the historical experience of relations with the USA and Great Britain, all facts connected with these countries, which have become traditional counterparts of Russia, at least since \u00abthe Cold War\u00bb seems to be of great benefit and interest to us. It is indisputable that the intervention in the history of our country received a negative assessment. By their presence, the countries of the Supreme Council of the Entente caused significant harm not only to the emerging Soviet state, but also to their allies \u2013 representatives of the White movement. On the other hand, according to Russian proverb there is a silver lining, since it was representatives of foreign countries who were involved in creating a visual image of the Civil War in Russia. In addition, this image was formed by Anglo-Saxon historical sources, their film and photo documents (FPD) during film and photo recording by American and British expeditionary forces of the form of the then settlements of vast Russia, its national characteristics, participants of the war \u2013 interventionists, \u00abWhites\u00bb, \u00abReds\u00bb, as well as civil population and their everyday life. The paper is devoted to the review of some parts of the Anglo-Saxon film and photo documents and consideration of American and British cameramen role, as well as photographers in terms of presenting the Civil War in Russia, the reflection of its period in human visual images. The research has been carried out within the framework of such an interdisciplinary branch of science as \u00abmilitary anthropology\u00bb, where \u00abthe man in the war\u00bb acts as the object of the study. The study has been based on the historical-systemic method, which allowed us to form a visual image of a contemporary of the Civil War in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
