Skornyakov, who was a teacher in Turukhansk at the end of 1880s. The young man described local educated society, living conditions and daily life of the inhabitants of a small Northern town. Special attention was drawn to the description of the local parish school and to the problems which the young teacher had to solve. A. Skornyakov also mentioned such topics as the development of the Northern sea route, embezzlement of state bread, abuse of officials, the plight of the Turukhansk commoners. Colorful details and apt epithets interspersed into the text give an opportunity to understand better the realities which surrounded the author.
