Zhalsanova<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transbaikal State University, Chita, Russia<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Abstract. <\/strong>The article is devoted to the study of the mythical appearance of the dragon in Chinese and Slavic mythology. The relevance of the study is due to the increased interest in the theme of the dragon and the obvious need to clarify the paradigm of evaluating the image of the dragon in the traditional understanding of it in ancient myths. The purpose of the article is to reveal the characteristic features of the image of the dragon in the oral folk art of Russia and China, as well as to clarify the semiotic status of this symbol in Russian culture, which occupies a transboundary location between East and West. To achieve this goal, source studies, culturological, cultural and historical methods are used. Some precedent works of ancient Russian and East Asian literature are considered, in which both positive and negative images of the dragon are used. The symbolism of the dragon refers to one of the most mysterious and complex figures in the history of world folklore. As a result, the authors come to the following conclusion that the perception of such an archetype as a dragon differs in European and Eastern cultures. The true dragon in the culture of China personifies all the main qualities: courage, courage, superiority, strength, stamina, nobility and divinity. The serpent in Russian folklore finds its manifestation through the motif of snake fighting, the consequences of which in the epic are extensive and significant. Also, the serpent is a negative character, an enemy defeated by the winner. As for the actual comparisons of the images of the snake in fairy tales, epics and spiritual verses, the maximum similarity is present between the serpent in spiritual verses and the serpent in epics.
