POSSIBILITIES OF APPLYING CHARLES PIERCE’S SIGN THEORY TO THE COMPUTER\u2019S VISION OPERATION PECULIARITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Anna A. Shurmanova1<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 1<\/sup> Siberian Federal University, Krasnoyarsk, Russia, Abstract. <\/strong>In the modern world, the trend of mechanization and automation of production, which began in the 19th century, is increasing every day. At the beginning of the XXI century, artificial intelligence is actively developing, in particular, computer vision, used in various fields: from the entertainment industry to medicine and robotics. This article is devoted to substantiating the possibility of applying the theoretical and methodological foundations of the sign theory of Ch. Peirce described in his work “The Beginnings of Pragmatism. Volume 2. Logical foundations of the theory of signs” (1908), to analyze the features of the mechanism of computer vision of such a part of artificial intelligence as Google Images Search. The study includes a review of modern scientific literature on the research topic, semiotic and content analysis of visual signs used by computer vision Google Images Search within a specific user query. As a result of the research, firstly, the theoretical and methodological principles of the sign theory of Ch. Peirce, presented in the work “The Beginnings of pragmatism. Volume 2. Logical foundations of the theory of signs” (1908), secondly, the existing definitions of the concept of “computer vision” are generalized and the features of the mechanism of computer vision Google Images Search as part of artificial intelligence are revealed through the application of theoretical and methodological principles of Ch. Peirce. It is determined that icons and symbols of the symbolic theory of Ch. Peirce can be applied to the study of the mechanism of computer vision (in this case, computer vision is indeed similar to human vision), but consideration of index signs shows that computer vision algorithms are generally more categorical than human ones (since index signs work with human thinking on an intuitive and associative level, a computer does not have such functions).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Keywords:<\/strong> computer vision, Google Images Search, Ch.
