Abstract. <\/strong>The aim of the study is to reveal the specifics of the social, didactic and educating levels of representation of works of the genre art of Russian painting of the 1860-1870s. The research is carried out using the method of philosophical and art history analysis of works of fine art. The paper provides a theoretical analysis of the concept of \u201cthe genre art\u201d and reveals a multifaceted subject of artistic modeling in works of the genre art. Etymological analysis allows us to correlate the concepts of \u201ceveryday life\u201d and \u201cbeing\u201d, which confirms the idea of the manifestation and existence of the Absolute in everyday life. The differences between the genre of genre and the genre of religious paintings are shown and the specificity of the non-confessional aspect of the genre paintings is revealed. The synthetic features of the genre art that combines elements of other genres are noted. The research reveals that the subject of artistic modeling in the works of the genre art are intangible values although embodied in material structures. The analysis of the social level of representation in works of the genre painting was carried out in the process of investigating the painting \u00abThe Arrival of the Governess to the Merchant House\u00bb by Vasiliy G. Perov. The didactic level of representation in works of the genre art in Russian painting of the 1860-1870s was revealed in the analysis of the artwork \u201cJokers. Merchant Court in Moscow\u201d by Illarion M. Pryanishnikov. The peculiarities of the educating level of representation in the works of the genre art are determined in the course of the analysis of the painting \u00abZemstvo is having dinner\u00bb by Grigoriy G. Myasoedov. The research proves that works of genre art mainly perform a didactic function, as they fix certain norms of human behavior in the society.
