Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the transformation of the image of artificial intelligence in the US cinema from the end of the 20th century to the present. Based on the analysis of such films as Blade Runner (1982), Terminator (1984), Her (2013), Blade Runner 2049 (2017), The Matrix film franchise (1999, 2003, 2021) and some others, the authors come up to the conclusion that films about artificial intelligence relieve tension in society in relation to the potential dangers that may be associated with the development of technologies based on artificial intelligence. Using the methods of comparative analysis, the authors establish that the image of artificial intelligence in cinema is undergoing significant transformations: from the notion that artificial intelligence is a possible serious threat to humanity in films of the late 20th century, the cinema of the early 21st century is moving towards creating an image of useful cooperation between artificial intelligence and humanity.
