REVIEW OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: THE LIMITS OF THE POSSIBLE BY MEREDITH BROUSSARD

Annotation
Artificial intelligence is gaining more and more influence in modern society, becoming an actor whose place in culture cannot be denied. However, we can say that this phenomenon, relatively young and at the same time significant, is only at the stage of conceptualization, including in the field of studying the impact on all spheres of society. This review provides an analytical review of the book “Artificial Intelligence: The Limits of the Possible” by the famous data journalist and programmer Meredith Broussard. The author is not only a data journalist, but also a programmer and software developer. She is interested in the issues of contact between these two areas – technologization and social practices. In the book, she, as a researcher of the ethics of artificial intelligence, presents a position on the essence, role of artificial intelligence in modern society and its impact on culture. She defends a point of view that relies on the idea of the impossibility of completely replacing a person with a “machine” – in her opinion, there are limits to the use of technology in human life and the idea that “machines”, technologies can be wrong. Broussard, a software engineer and journalist, reminds us that there are fundamental limits to what we can (and should) do with technology. In this book, she offers guidance on understanding the inner workings and outer limits of technology—and warns that we should never assume that computers always do everything right.
