NETWORK ANALYSIS OF PARTY DISCOURSE IN THE USSR, 1923-1927: BASED ON THE STENOGRAMS OF THE XII-XV CONGRESSES OF THE ALL-UNION COMMUNIST PARTY (BOLSHEVIKS)

Abstract. This article analyzes party discourse during the period 1923-1927 using the stenograms of the XII-XV Congresses of the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks)-All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). The study was conducted using network analysis. Based on frequency lemmatization of the texts and the calculation of pointwise mutual information (PMI), a weighted graph of lexical connections was constructed, to which the Louvain clustering algorithm was applied. Five stable thematic clusters were identified, reflecting key areas of intra-party discussion such as: intra-party struggle, ideological work and personnel, world revolution, party building, and economics. Centrality metrics showed that the absolute semantic core of the discourse is the concept of «bourgeoisie,» around which all other concepts were structured. The words «discussion,» «deviation,» and «danger» exhibit a high degree of betweenness centrality. A comparative analysis of the clusters showed that while all themes were almost equally prevalent, the areas of intra-party struggle and ideological work were the most saturated, whereas economic issues occupied a peripheral position. The results obtained allow for the reconstruction of the structure of party discourse and the identification of key themes for the legitimation of ideas within the context of intra-party struggle.
