Army of the Han Empire and Chinese campaigns to the north

Abstract. A study was made of the manning, structure, composition, weapons and tactics of the Han empire army on the basis of both the latest relevant sources on this topic and on the basis of primary sources. Controversial issues concerning the structure of the Han army are considered. Identified features of this army, which determined the nature and dynamics of military operations, which led the Chinese in antiquity. The campaigns of the Chinese to the north are analyzed and the limits of their maximum penetration into the northern territories were established, which were largely determined by the characteristics of the Han army.
