Abstract. The article examines the preconditions and reasons for the emergence of street art. Particular attention is paid to the development of street art in Russia, the connection of street art with the political mood of society. The article makes some contribution to the current rethinking of the theory of freedom of art, and also reveals the issue of challenging the main characteristics of street art, for example, «anonymity», «expression of protest», «non-commercial basis». Modern society prefers spending time on social networks, oversaturation of visual advertising affects a person in such a way that people lose the ability to turn around, look at buildings, look with interest at the real world, because of this, the main thing for the theory of fine arts – the concept of dialogue — disappears. works with the viewer. That is why it is worth finding new approaches and ways to actualize street art in modern society. The study presents the results of a survey conducted among Internet users in 2021. As a result, we obtained relevant data on the attitude of respondents to street art. As a result of the survey, it was revealed that street art has consolidated its position as a contemporary art. Street art today is more a stimulus for self-expression, transformation and improvement of streets, preservation of the cultural code of the city and country, through the images of famous scientists, singers, actors. There were very few negative reviews among the respondents, which suggests an increase in the number of supporters of this direction of art and its possible full-fledged development.
