Abstract. In recent years, there has been an increase in the popularity of platforms where user-generated photo and video content is publicly available. Art in its various forms is acquiring a new digital format for itself. This phenomenon is of great interest to scientists engaged in the digitalization of art and other processes related to digital technologies. This article is a review of the work of German scientists A. Phillips, S. Zerr and E. Erde «The representation of street art on Flickr. Studying reception with visual content analysis». It was published in 2017 in the journal Visual Studies. The authors are conducting a study aimed at identifying the views of the viewer – Internet user, about what street art is. The article describes how users of the social network Flickr label street art, what they mean by the term «street art» and on what basis users select what needs to be photographed and share it on their personal profile. The main method of this article is the method of content analysis, which allows you to get information about selected photos and descriptions that users make for a particular image. Descriptions are valuable because some of them give the reason why a particular photo of street art appeared on the web on the user’s page, and also in the descriptions there are some repetitive descriptions that have become a kind of «markers» for the art that is understood by people. as «street».
