REPRESENTATION OF THE ITALIAN WORLD IN «TALES OF ITALY» BY M. GORKY. INTERNET SURVEY DATA

Abstract. The article analyzes the content of the literary work «Tales of Italy» by Maxim Gorky. It was written by him during his emigration to Italy in 1911–1913. The purpose of the research is to study the concept of the Italian world by M. Gorky and the perception of this picture of the world by the reader. Together with the use of such methods as an analysis and synthesis, a survey was conducted on the Internet among people who are fond of both Italian culture and literature in principle. Using a number of associative connections and concepts from this cycle of artistic stories to create a survey, the principle of comparing the presented content with sensual, and in places with a stereotypical idea of the «Italian world» and its culture. The results of the study talk about the prevalence of romanticization of Italy and its components, which gives an understanding for such a process as a subjective perception, formed through the prism of existing stereotypes about the «Italian world» and world-famous works of art. Private results of an Internet poll reveal several aspects of the study of the «Italian world»: the author does not have to be a direct part of this nation or this culture in order to reveal all the subtleties of the proposed picture (60,7% of the votes speak about this point of view); the juxtaposition of the song and dance elements speaks of the stereotypical dominance of the song (68, 3%); the religious aspect is revealed from the Christian tradition (55,7%); spontaneous associations speak of the primacy of a pair consisting of solar and earth; the «passionate» (91,8%) aspect prevails over the «furious» (8.2%); tendencies of romanticizing the «Italian world» are confirmed (82%). At the same time, most of the respondents agree with the statement about optimistic tendencies within the «Italian world» (73,8%).
