Abstract. This study provides a comparative analysis of the American and Russian historiographic traditions studying the Korean Air War (1950–1953). The relevance of this work is determined by the persistent significant differences in the interpretation of key aspects of the conflict, which are rooted in the different conditions under which these traditions were formed within the ideological context of the Cold War. The purpose of the article is to identify and systematize the fundamental differences in approaches, interpretations of facts, and methodological foundations of both schools when analyzing such issues as the role of Soviet pilots, the ratio of aviation losses, and the nature of combat operations. The methodological basis of the study consists of the historical-genetic method, which made it possible to trace the development of each tradition; the comparative historical method, used to compare the approaches of the two schools; and the historical-typological method, which ensures the systematization of their internal structure. The empirical base of the study includes a representative corpus of American and Russian scholarly works. The analysis revealed a fundamental narrative asymmetry between the historiographic traditions. Russian historiography is characterized by a focus on restoring facts long concealed by censorship and the active introduction of previously classified archival documents into scholarly circulation. The American tradition has undergone a dynamic evolution: from the apologetic narrative of the 1950s–1970s, through the revisionist critical approach of the 1970s–1980s, to contemporary comprehensive analysis. Despite certain points of potential convergence, the two historiographies retain significant differences, stemming from the differing research objectives and entrenched academic traditions. A significant research gap is the insufficient attention paid by both schools to the humanitarian dimension of the conflict, which is crucial in the context of contemporary military-historical anthropology and hinders prospects for further interdisciplinary research.
